Funding of Master’s students

Since September 2015 a new procedure for funding of students was started. Only students of the Master’s Programme in Social and Cultural Anthropology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam can apply for a fund. The criteria for funding are described in a handout distributed among the students of the 2015-2016 academic year. The maximum funding is 500 euro per student.

The applications were assessed on the societal relevance of the research plan and the potential of the proposed research to be expanded into a (small) development project after the Master research. The Master’s research is not meant to be a development project, but it should yield the kind of knowledge that can be used to start up a project after the Master has been completed.
No geographical region was excluded by Vamos Bien, but it stood to  reason that a research in the global South would fit the criteria of Vamos Bien more easily than a project in the North. Vamos Bien prioritized applications connecting to a research project of one of the staff members of the SCA Department of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The exact amount of money available for each project depended on the number of fruitful applications and were not announced beforehand. Not all applications meeting these requirements will automatically receive funding.
In return for the funding received applicants were expected to:
1. Writing at least three blogs for the Vamos Bien website, one during each month of the  fieldwork.
2. To present their research results for next year’s students or at a Vamos Bien event in the future.
